Adding a page to the web server.
This page is provided for information and as a guide only. Some ISP linking rules may differ from what is written here, but check it out with the webmaster at you local ISP.
Procedures
Usually there is a request to the ISP to provide web space. This space
is not always added until it is formally requested, by email.
Check out
the
users page,
search for a link that says how to add my page or something about
FTP. Once your web space
has been added, you will need to
design a web
page to place on the server. This page usually carries the name of
index.htm and is supposed to be written before a link is requested.
The
index.htm file is the file that loads by default when your directory is accessed
via the web. You may name it anything you want but usually index.htm is
the standard. ie. www.yourisp.com/~username/ would load the index.htm
file located in this users directory.
Once you have your page created
you can place it on the server via a program usually provided called
FTP. Again check out the
users page for a how to use an FTP
program. It will contain all the necessary information on how to set up the
FTP client.
Once
your page has been placed on the server, an email message to either webmaster or
addweb or some similar email address requesting a link to the users page, giving
both the web site title and your user name.Usually if you don't
supply a Web site title no page link will be provided.
NOTE ! Sending multiple messages to the webmaster does not ensure you a link any quicker. Adding links is usually done on a as necessary schedule or sometimes once a week depending on the amount of links to be added.
